Khövsgöl aimag – Хөвсгөл аймаг
The main attraction of the region is undoubtedly the lake Khövsgöl (or Khuvsgul), also called Mother Lake or Ocean by Mongolians. Khövsgöl aimag is a landscape of forests, lakes and mountains and is very popular among Mongolian tourists mainly from Ulaanbaatar.
Khövsgöl Lake is the second largest lake in Mongolian in terms of area and the largest in terms of volume of water. The lake reaches a depth of 262 m and consists of 1% – 2% of the world’s drinking water supply. Yes, you can drink straight from the lake.
Surroundings of the lake consists beautiful forested mountains, where live “reindeer people” – Catan. They live in a teepee and their life is very closely linked with the reindeer. They ride on them, feed on their meat and wear their skins.
Khövsgöl aimag is an area you should not miss during your visit the Mongolia.
